Chapter 1 - Warm Up

Warm-UP

Regard the art on the cover of this book. Relax, focus, take in the colors and composition. Then freewrite a page of anything it suggests to you, reminds you of, or makes you feel.  You don't need to make sense of sentences, nor stick to the subject.  Just let it flow. Put the page away for a week.Take it out and see: Is there anything here you might use? Any idea worth more thought? Any phrase of image to pursue?

  1. This cover reminds me of a wide open field; a field that hasn't been touched by any human, but touched by every single one at the same time. It reminds me of creativity and how everyone has their own perspectives of life and how they want to live their life. The first thing i noticed about this cover is there is no true meaning behind it but there is individual insights like how some people may have noticed the animal in the center of the page, or the bushes the animal appears to be eating, and others had the appreciation of the mountains on the left side of the cover. This cover is chaotic yet calming; messy but clear. it is what ever you want it to be.

  2. The cover art reminds me of a dancer. The flow of the colors and it looks like it is being carried off by the wind. It reminds me of the flow of a ballerina. The colors remind me of an AI painting, putting a bunch of colors together, it should feel chaotic, yet it doesn't. It has sharp edges, yet it fades into eachother, making the edges not a divider, but a design. The colors are cold, yet inviting. The swirls have a calming effect. There is green, blue, red, purple, yellow, orange, and black.

  3. The cover art of this book reminds me of the rainforest. There is a lot of green which makes me think of trees, bushes, and plants. The red, blue, black, yellow, and pink remind me of the colorful and lustrous animals that roam the rainforest. More specifically, I think of the manipulative color of poison dart frogs, and the colors that make up the toucan's large beak. Then streaks of black cause me to think of the sneaky, sly black panthers and leopards. In the cover art there also little spots of white. This reminds me of the sun's rays that shine through the canopy created by the trees. From the outside, the rainforest looks like a bleak sea of green. As soon as one enters, there is amazing wildlife that occupies that area.

  4. The colors on this book, make me feel a sense of happiness and I sit here contemplating if thats why these colors were chosen? I believe so, because so many of us (myself included) books often mean gloom and something we don't like to indulge in. Would our thoughts about books change if every cover felt so inviting and warm like this one? For myself, no. Once you get past the colorful cover at the end of the day it's still a book. My second thought about this cover was that, it reminds me of a New Orleans street mural and the way the colors just interflow within one another and almost bounce off one another. Theres multitudes of colors and there's no rhyme or reason to the placement, almost like Bourbon Street.

  5. lyrical imagery flowing sweetly together
    brushstrokes working in tandem
loving hands crafting, creating, connecting one color to its corresponding
a sense of identity leaps off the page imprinting itself on the viewer
as they leave, their steps are fingerpainted with thoughts roused by what they saw
puzzle pieces never sang so saccharinely to the whole
    artwork sighs to their mother
“am I created in your image?”
    and what is that image
artists mold and meld their art to sustain against the world, for others to love
to imprint, to persuade, to create a rhetoric that rushes the river faster
    a mother and a girl
an artist never held their paintbrush so steady, rife with anxiety, quivering with worry,
but rendered with all the potential love of a lamb

  7. The cover is like an abstract art piece. It is bright and colorful, with no discerning shapes, and does not really make sense. It is creative in the way that it can be or represent whatever the viewer wants it to. I think this is sometimes what a good writing piece does too, it fits to what the reader perceives the piece to be. The abstract quality also has a way of influencing creativity; the bright colors and calm chaos of the cover creates the feeling of imagination to write whatever comes to mind.

  8. This image reminds me of childhood. It’s extremely vibrant and unorganized yet clean and everything seems to fall into place. Each color feels like a memory. Blue, I’m at the water park. Green, I’m with my friends playing outside. Orange, I’m with my family eating at the dinner table. Yellow, I’m playing at the playground. Pink, I spot my first crush in the hallway. I can imagine my 10 year old self sitting in art class waiting for the colorful paint to be passed around. It’s loud in the classroom yet I’m comfortable in my own world thinking about which spirited animal I want to paint. This image brings my mind back to a much more simple time. At what point did life get so complicated? At what point did my little rainbow turn into just rain? At what point did an image so colorful like this turn black and white?

  9. The cover of this book makes me feel like I am at a museum. Museums are meant to be expressive and they showcase a lot of talent. When I look at the cover I kind of see a chameleon. I see mountains in the background. The color palette reminds me of home. I feel at peace with the cover art. I see an eagle with its wings spread out across the page, maybe swooping down to catch its prey. This picture reminds me of my writing style as well. It is all over the place, not one solid thing. Maybe it is a pig instead of a chameleon, I am not sure but it is definitely an animal.

  10. The book cover is very bright. Something that sticks out to me immediately is the bright green that I think covers up most of the picture. The black lines that isolate the green strokes from each other makes me think of a reptile hiding in a tree. The little in blue, it’s arm in a lighter green that gets kind of shaded out towards the end of it. Then in the background it looks like this is a sea colored in a saturated dark blue. Within that sea is more green, but this green looks to be in the shape of a boat. The shapes aren’t actually definitive and I don’t know for sure if everything is what I’m seeing, but it’s what my mind is interpreting that lines as.

Then there is the bottom half of the cover; the cover is split into two parts. The top half of the cover is the bright colored abstract art piece while the bottom is in black and white, with a box and line in what I think is maroon. The title is in big, bold, black letters, and while the title is in the middle of the maroon box and not at the top like the author’s name is, it draws my attention first before anything else. I move down the cover to see the Elements of Craft subtitle, then the fourth edition text, and then finally my eyes move back up to the middle of the cover to the thick black line where the author’s name is written in a contrasting white.

This cover makes me feel the two separate themes of this book. By themes I mean the contexts that it’s written in, it’s purpose, etc… The book is being written about imagination and the bright world of writing (represented by the upper half), however, it’s still a formative textbook and there is an official educational purpose behind it’s creation (represented by it’s contrasting black and white bottom half). The author’s name splits these two halves apart which I think is interesting. To me, this tells me that the author is in both of these worlds; they are an imaginative writer themselves but also an educator who has this formal element to their work.

The author wants us to focus on our imagination though, despite this having to be read formally for a class and class discussions. Janet Burroway doesn’t want us to forget that the whole purpose of the book is to unlock our imagination and help aid us into being more creative writers.

  11. The colors are bright and vibrant, which makes me more interested in seeing what could be inside. When I look at this image it has my favorite colors some blues greens red yellows and different shapes and designs. I don’t really see any picture or image within the art but in the middle, if I look closely I feel like I see a bird. Feeling wise it makes me feel happy and joyful but also confused about what I will be reading as the image is all over the place with colors and design. This art reminds me of a kid's book or something I would see in an art museum or even a high-class painting, I feel as if it's very modern and something that would be seen in today's art pieces.

  12. In this image I see a city. There are sharp, distinct lines that look like skyscrapers and unique architecture that you would find in a larger city. There are softer swirls of blue and white that make me think of the sky and maybe a body of water on the horizon. There is a rainbow of colors displayed in the image that make me think of the diversity and liveliness you can find in a big city. I think that green is the most used color in this piece of artwork, which leads me to believe that there is a lot of naturalness to this city. Many places for one to get outside and enjoy what the world naturally has to offer us. I see a black shape in the bottom left corner of the image, which looks like a subway to me. A way for people to travel about and see everything this city has to offer. An ode to the vastness of such a place. This is a place that calls to the young and restless. A place where we go to find a new version of ourselves. I firmly believe that there is something beautiful in every city and I think that this image does a wonderful job of conveying that. I want to visit this hypothetical city. I want to live there and explore every inch of it. I want to meet new people who have also been drawn there. This city flows chaotically like the souls of those just starting to really live their lives for the first time. It welcomes all who are lost and want to be found. One day I will find this city and maybe myself as well.

  14. The colors of the rainbow are a funny thing. Everyone knows them. You could ask anyone what the colors of the rainbow are, and if they are above the age of 4 they will probably say: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and violet. What is funny about the colors is everyone sees them a little differently. Are the vans pick or teal? Is the dress gold and white or blue and black? These are questions that people debated for weeks, and felt very strongly about, but these examples are not the only times that people can see colors differently. When you see the color red what do you think of? Do you think of a bright, warm, welcoming color or do you think of anger, and hatred? The same thing goes for any color. Everyone perceives them differently and it is why everyone has different colors. Some people love bright and fun colors, and others would call bright and fun colors an eyesore. Some people love neutral colors, others think they are plain, and boring. Your favorite color or colors can also tell you a little about your personality also. What styles you wear, or how you decorate your room may depend on how you perceive different colors. This is why colors are so funny. There is never a right answer about them because everyone's brains process color differently.

  15. The Art of Imaginative Writing by Janet Burroway reminds me of fishing by home. The is a shape of a slender green fish with a blue eye in the center of the art. I also see a green and blue theme that reminds me of pond water with algae. The waves in the art are like the waves in the pond when there is a breeze. The art gives me a fond feeling because it reminds me of days with little stress and much relaxation. I grew up on a cattle farm in Kentucky that will always be home to me no matter where I am in my life. I liked experiencing the quietness of a rural farm that offers a peaceful easy feeling through all seasons of the year. The winters are brisk, cozy, and white with snow. The spring is alive with all the growing ecosystems. The summers are incredibly warm and green. The fall is all shades of vibrant colors from the trees with an excitement in the air for the upcoming sport seasons.

  16. This book cover, though busy and vibrant, looks calming and inviting. The abstract art holds little images within it, and if you look hard enough at the different parts of the cover, you can make different images in your head. What is interesting about this abstract art is that each viewer can interpret it differently. This could show that the artist of the cover is trying to show the reader that, similar to the image on the front of the book, the work inside of the book is going to be interpreted differently by each reader. Literature can be understood in so many different ways, and there is not just one correct perspective to each piece of writing. The different vibrant colors can also represent the creativity that the book holds, and by using so many different colors and shades, it helps to relate to each piece of writing. If the cover were to be black and white and give off sad emotions to the reader, then they may think that the entire book contains sad writing. In this book, the different colors and creativity in the abstract work helps to keep the reader from assuming that every piece of writing will be about the same thing.

  18. The cover is full of colors, as I examine it I depict Earth. There are landscapes, mountains, and fish. Winds swirling through each to display a sense of freedom and hope, an age of creativity and life. Each color forms perfectly together contrasting one another much like other pieces of art/literature. Individuals depict things differently especially after staring at the colors for so long. It morphs into something else. Colors on a canvas for everyone trying to make something profound. But you can’t just throw things on a canvas and call it art. It takes skill, practice, and time to even start to make art. The art on the cover is a reflection all the turmoils, practice, and depictions presented in the book itself. Comprising of feelings and that sense of freedom that is allowed when you write. Even the title expresses that “imaginative” expression that is sprawled out on the cover and throughout the book. You must allow yourself to feel it in all aspects, and even then you will not fully grasp what all you see and read. It’s a temptation. I keyhole into a world of your own where you’re able to see and experience different worlds. Just like Alice in Wonderland, she explored until she understood. We must do the same. Writing allows us to go to those places and experience things and feelings that are not known to us in the reality of life, but allowing yourself to do so you must be careful. Even you could “have off with your head!”

  19. I see every color of the rainbow. I don’t know if I see ant defined shapes, I think it’s just a lot of scrambled colors and lines. I see clouds and undefined objects. I think I see a face in the middle of the image. There are a lot of different colors to work with. The mix of all the colors reminds me of lights reflecting on water. I see a fish shaped object in the image. A few scribbles and shades of black are thrown in there, I’m not sure what that is supposed to represent though. It looks like the bottom left corner has all the darker shades, like the black and a dark green, and as it moves through to the top right all the colors get lighter. There is a yellow and green circle shape in the middle of the image.

  20. There is chaos and silence and beauty in the picture. Is it a pig, a bird? Is it an animal at all or a group of animals? Or maybe a crash, but not of violence or hate or anger. Maybe there’s nothing here. Maybe its just some wackjobs 2 million dollar painting that his kids played with when he stepped away. Through it all, there is fluidity. One line meets the next and another story is created. Maybe every color is just a person ane every time a color meets another, a bond is created and that helps shape the area and the surroundings all fall in. Maybe this is someones happy little world- where chaos meets well… more chaos and through that grows something everyone strives to be. And that is seamless and a perfect fit. Although their character may seem jumbled, it’s a jumbled character with a vision. They may not be able to see it just yet but it’s there and it’s becoming clearer. With every stroke of the paint brush, they show individuality and beauty in being different. There’s nothing similar or familiar but it all looks different… in a good way. Peaky mountains and crashing waves alongside cave paintings and a Van Gough. Clouds in a starry night and peaks in a stock market- thats one lucky son of a gun. To eventually show our solice and dispair with darkness that we hide in the corner. Merry Christmas.

  21. The light shading makes me think the artist drew it with colored pencils. It has a childlike abstractness to it. There is no rhyme or reason for the colors and shapes, they are thrown about on the page. One of these abstract shapes near the center of the page reminds me of a chameleon, with its green shading and shape, looking like a lizard's tail. The background shapes in the image remind me of a maze. There are harsh lines that slowly curve and flow into a colorful rainbow. Yet there is no clear path, nor was one intended. The bright colors and unfinished shapes tell a story of a child's drawing hung up on the fridge. A swirl of greens, wrapped by a black line is a stray unicorn horn in a mess of glitching shapes. Green bumps in the bottom corner are the grassy hills, home to a cartoon character in my memory. The cover seems childish at first, considering this is a college course, I wasn’t entirely sure I had the right book at first glance. But, looking past the books cover, I can see its intention was to provoke thought. It could be viewed as a representation of literature itself. Yes, we are reading the words on the page, but there is always a deeper meaning, something more, a meaning. This books cover means to draw out those “looking deeper” type of thoughts, before you even begin reading.

  22. To begin, this is a lovely image. Its use of vivid and extreme warm and cool colors creates an image of freshness in my mind. Personally, when I view this image, immediately the thought of fruits and vegetables comes to mind. In the bottom left corner, there are green circular shapes with shading that creates the illusion of spheres. This reminds me specifically of broccoli or green beans. In a contrast of color, on the bottom right corner there are streaks of red. This reminds me of a red pepper or watermelon. Above the red there is a thick yellow shape which reminds me of a banana. This to me looks like an abstract version of a beautiful spread of healthy and nutritious choices. In addition, since it is summer and so hot outside, the thought of cold vegetables and fruits is extra appealing; therefore, this image is vivid and clear in my mind.

  23. After reflecting on the art in the cover art, it really reminded me of an 80’s print. It’s electric color and vibrance excites the viewer. It makes me feel energizesed and joyful. With all of the different shapes and colors, it also reminds me of the lion king, a scene where the ferret and the pig try to get samba to eat the colorful bugs. Although that thought is random, it truly reminds me of that scene. The heavy nostalgia that comes with it is happy. Another thing it reminds me of is nurses scrubs with the odd variations of colors, this feeling that comes with it is not as bubbly and uplifting as my other thoughts. I also see a hermit crab like figure in the middle of this art piece that reminds me of going on family vacation to Charleston when I was young. My sister and I would always buy and bring home a smelly hermit crab t5hat we would love and care for until we would release it.

  24. Alison Belford - The book has many colors on the cover: blue, green, red, orange, yellow, brown, pink, and white. These colors make up the top half of the book in a spiral manner. The different shapes of different colors overlap each other to create abstract art. The colorful top is cut off with a thick black heading reading the author's name: Janet Burroway. The bottom half of this book is simplistic: black words on a white background. The title of the book, Imaginative writing, correlates with the artwork on the top half. There is no distinct pattern, so you can interpret the art piece in any imaginative way you'd like. The colors are vibrant which portrays a more joyous cover, and makes you wonder if the reading will be joyous as well. You can imagine the top of the book representing a forest. On the right I see trees with the orange sun rising behind it. I see a blue sky on top of the orange with mountains and clouds. The spirals shown in the center left of the drawing reminds me of a mountain range, but one in particular reminds me of a fish. There are many possibilities of how to interpret the art piece shown on the top half of the book. It’s interesting that the entire front cover isn’t the artwork, but it gets cut off by a boring and plain white cover.

  25. The first thing that comes to mind when I look at this cover is how vibrant each color is with one another. Everyone who looks at it could see it differently and find a different meaning or image from it. I think the picture itself in a way shows how creative writing comes together. Random colors axled together a canvas to create a picture that isn’t just a bunch of colors but a work of art. This is how I view creative writing. The ability to use your imagination and creative powers instead of writing based off facts, opens up endless possibilities in the world of writing. The cover of this book consists of abstract colors, shapes, and a unique design that makes the book more appealing to the naked eye.

  26. The cover of this book is exactly what the title means. Someone used their imagination to make the color and picture. The picture does not really look like anything specific. When you use your imagination, you cannot be wrong or right. There is no right or wrong explanation to what your mind sees when writing. There are a lot of colors on the front but not every color. I do not think that the colors have a certain meaning, but I feel like that’s the writer’s favorite colors or whatever colors were in his head at the time. When someone writes with their imagination you can always create a story and I think that you might be able to create a story with this.

  27. colors swirl, shapes clash, chaos spreads, corroding the soul.
Impending sneers jarred through subhuman faces.
    Twisting, twirling, choking, suffocating, busyness.
Zigging and zagging, flowing and rounding, twisting through the mind, snaring the words throughout, forcing them onto the page.
Ripping my thoughts, ripping my soul, a jagged arrow of creativity thrust out, deepening the wound that festers and feeds the the words, stolen and robbed from me, never to be used, never to be rekindled.
Pressure builds in the core as internal energy wrangles within, contorting in shapes of faces and mazes, barring escape or freedom.
Trapped in an endless spread of mentality and mind, the intellect a key to one cage, leading to a bigger one, enlightenment as much of a prison as ignorance
Ability to free oneself, but no idea of how, locked in the mind, in stories never coming to fruition, snippets sneering that they escaped through the bars that you cannot, gaps in the cage allowing enough nourishment to feed, but not enough to satisfy.
Failure to thrive, failure to sour, even Icarus had an opportunity to fly, yet here I stay, grounded, caged in my own eternal prison of mentality and mind, suffocated by ability.
Daedalus crafted to free himself from his mind, at the cost of his own apprentice, his younger self.
Creation and freedom, a cost too heavy to bear, a guilty, bloody death of ones own youth, of ones own naivety and safety

  28. When I look at the picture I feel sick. The different colors that are contrasting makes it bold and vibrant but it feels like its too much. I see a fish like thing in the picture, it reminds me of the seafood markets in grocery stores. I can smell it. Smells awful and I want to throw up. It looks like a grocery store, I can never stay in teh sea food section without gagging. I hate the smell of fish. I hate how the colors make me feel sick because I love bright colors. I hate how theres so much red but i love how much greeen there is. I hate how confused I am about the painting, and how it makes me think about what it means. I hate how I know if I saw it in a museum i would say that it looks amazing. It does, but Im confused. Why so many colors? What is the message? Is it meaningful? Am I looking too much into it? When I see it, it reminds m,e of disgust. How I feel about one person. How I would totally hit her with a car if she was in the way because thats how much I hate her. She goes well with this painting. Too much happening, confusing, and all around dislikeable. Im a hater to my core, but it just doesnt make sense. Maybe I should be a better perwson. When I see this painting I see more unhappy emotions with it. Maybe its a representation of me. How I need to be better, nicer, more genuine. But trhen I remember how much I fucking hate people. And how my reasons are justified.

  29. The cover reminds me of a chameleon. The colors, shapes, and overall figure remind me of the lizard. The colors are warm, but the image looks cold. The bottom has rigid corners while the top has smooth curves. The bottom also has curves at the bottom that look like greenery. It feels like I am on a mountain looking out to other mountains with a colorful sky in the background. The cover is confusing. Some shapes loop around each other and create a very complicated image. It is a very chaotic scene. It looks as though lightning is piercing through the figures in the image. It looks like a storm at sea, with large waves towering over everything in the image. The top left makes me feel like I am looking at a tall building that’s scale I can’t comprehend. It feels otherworldly, like something I shouldn’t be seeing. It feels like I am seeing the world from something else’s eye. Seeing colors and things people can’t see or understand. The image also reminds me of a complex road. This could be how our cities, roadways, and infrastructure could look to those who don’t understand it. Like an ant looking at a highway.

  30. The constant flow of the different shades of green throughout the cover of this book reminds me of my high school. Our colors were green, white and black but the color that held the most significance out of those three for our school was the green. That same green that reminds of fresh cut lawn or beautiful lush trees in the summer, that same green represents my four years of high school, it is a beautiful color that represents and reminds me of many different things. In having that green on the cover it also has a sense of randomness but also being sorted as well, the different lines and colors are in their certain positions or tones to represent something even though it appears to be something random. I find that relating to my first week of college, everything was crazy, there was so much going on, so many different colors, so many different people all at the same time. The flood gates were opened upon the freshman class and all will take it differently. Just as everyone is going to write something differently about how the cover of this book effected them or what they saw in it. Life is filled with many different colors, lines, people, things, anything, just like the cover of this book. Sorted chaos is the vibe I pick up from the cover but also the same vibe I pick up for the basic college student life, many different things happening at once when you are the only constant. The constant is you and things change around you and you either have to flow with them like the curvy lines on the cover or you just get shaded into the background like the barely showing lighter colors of the cover. Just like this cover life is what you make of it.

    Warm up
The cover of this page expresses many thoughts and feelings towards me, the green expresses the sharpness of the mind and the calmness that it can bring. The hints of blue thrown in between show me the calmness of the picture in such a hectic piece of art. The small hints of yellow are a needed warmness to the picture as it shows the happiness and joy hidden within the deep meaning behind the pages. The red and black give structure and dominance with their strong colors and even with there being less than the green at points it stands out more. The pink starts from the top right and flows gracefully and smoothly towards the middle as if it is trying to express an emotion to the viewer. There are many symbols and pictures that can be interpreted from the cover such as the dog in the middle or the red mountains behind it or even the blue clouds in the sky and the waterfall of pink to the top left with the trees and plains at the bottom.

  32. There’s lots of shapes intertwined with color. Geometry class, but there’s no right formula. Probably how geometry felt when you first start it.

A dog’s head emerges from a green circle. It reminds me of the colorful elephant story. What is it called? What was his name? He was a little elephant, patchwork pattern splayed across his skin. Fantastical in color, that book was. I miss reading little kid books. I miss my childhood a lot actually. But then I remember I don’t have to let it go. It’s what made me. Playing outdoors, creating fantasy worlds where I controlled the weather and my sister could talk to animals, making food for fairies, defeating evil pirate ghosts that haunted my grandparent’s landlocked farm.

The bottom left corner of the art piece on the cover shows several emerald green semicircles placed together. Several of them are interconnected, continuous. It makes me think of bushes in a garden. There is a painting that used to hang in my grandmother’s house. Pointillism type of style, but it was a woman in an elegant dress promenading in a beautiful garden, parasol in hand, her face hidden in the art style. I miss that painting. It doesn’t hang anymore because my grandmother didn’t put it back up after her house was painted. It probably made her tired just to think about the labor. My grandmother is one of the strongest women I know, but sometimes the simplest tasks make her want to sit down for awhile.

I find it odd that the title of the textbook is not incorporated into this whimsical artwork. Ironic almost, that the word “imaginative” is written quite plainly, in traditional sans serif text. It is rather bold though, as if declaring its subject matter with might and certainty. Imagination should be a certainty, especially in children. Without imagination, I think your childhood does not feel magical. After all, it’s all the play pretend and novelty of life that makes growing up exciting. Imagination can also be an escape. When childhood is interrupted by the natural progression of time, when adolescence sneaks up, imagination is the path back to times of simplicity. Imagination keeps our minds young and our hearts thoughtful of the times when the world was all new, all pure.

  33. I believe that the picture on the cover matches the title of the book (Imaginative Writing) very well. The picture to me is creative. It is not something that just anyone could come up with but it has a purpose or message behind it. When i think of imaginative writing i think of something similar to this picture. It is personal to you and comes from your own imagination. Not everyone may be able to understand it, but you do. This picture also reminds me of the title, Imaginative Writing, because it is fun and colorful, with different shapes and lines that are all over the place. I believe that imagination is endless and this picture conveys this idea with shapes that dont necessarily have an end, or the vast shades of colors, ect. In my imagination for example, this is what it can sometimes look like. I can come up with crazy things that may not make sense or seem real, but thats what an imagination is for.

  34. At first glance, the cover of the textbook evokes a feeling of happiness. Bright colors and funky shapes are appealing to the eyes and allow for us to break it down on our own. When studying the picture, I found myself trying to give a reason as to why the shapes were in this format and if the colors had any symbolic meaning. The answer I came up with is that there is absolutely no cause or reason for any of that. I think it is up to the audience to come up with either what they think it is or what it reminds them of. For me, it looks like a cartoon land in which it would not be surprising to see unique creatures running around and exotic flowers that do not exist in our world. It can also be seen as an opposite world when in comparison to the bland and neutral world we live in. This picture also stands out when put next to other textbooks that merely say the name and subject of the textbook in plain arial font. Other textbooks use bland and dark colors that often match their content. However, this picture is not like the rest and uses it to their advantage. It could be to get students more excited about the content and course they are taking, or it could simply be an artistic choice and have no meaning at all. In my opinion, the main point of this piece is that there is actually no point at all. It is up to whoever comes across this piece to come up with their own thoughts, opinions, and feelings about what it could all mean.

  35. The image on the front of this book reminds me of a chameleon. There looks like a little lizard figure in the center towards the left. With all the colors surrounding it, it shows the true meaning of creativity. A chameleon changes its colors to fit the environment. However, the environment he is in currently consists of many colors. The difference in colors shows how the world of creative writing is ever-changing just like the chameleon. There is not one right color he can change to, there's no one right way to write or read a creative paper. In some ways, it can be overwhelming not to have one true meaning to the set of words but that's what's so beautiful about it. You can interpret the chaos any way you see fit.
Sometimes creative writing is overwhelming for me. Actually most of the time it is extremely overwhelming. I relate to the chameleon in that way, there are so many different colors to change to but he doesn't know which one is the right one and there are so many different things you could say but you don't know what the right things to say are. Truthfully, writing creatively scares me. It is chaotic and you can really say whatever you feel is right for the text. For someone who likes to do things the right way, having the creativity to make my own writing and not just stating facts is scary. The chameleon looks calm in all the chaos and I hope one day I can be confident enough in my writing to be calm in the chaos as well.

  36. The cover of the book is very vibrant, it draws you in and makes you want to look at it. Decipher its meaning. However when I am looking at this artwork I get confused, it is so abstract that I can’t actually tell what is pictured and what the denotation is. I would say the piece has more green than anything. I also see many different lines that go different ways parallel and perpendicular. There is no one flow to where the lines can go, so many different shapes and dimensions. Possibly it is showing the complexity of the world of creative writing. Since it's creative and everyone's brain is wired to be creative in different ways. Showing how wide the range of creative writing is based on what you are writing about and how you go about writing. Comparing this complex artwork to the complex field of creative writing.

  37. The cover of the book is super colorful. There are geometric shapes and many colors including green, blue, yellow, red, orange, black, and pink. For the top half it is the colorful image and on the bottom half there is the title of the book in bolder black letters. there are lots of shapes in the image including swirls, zig zags, squares, circles, thin and thick lines. I like how the colors are very bright and stand out. there is lots of shading within the shapes and different textures. The shapes are overlapping and many come off the sides of the page. I think the green stands out the most in the image because there is a lot of the color and it is the brightest in the image. Some of the shapes aren’t filled in all the way and it looks like watercolor. Many of the colors mix together and form to make darker and lighter shades.

  38. There is a bird and an armadillo telling a story of conformity. It is as though the animal wants to see itself as something it is not. The fantasy he creates is something that will never be reality so he pretends and imagines until the bright reds and pinks turn into a wicked green. The sharp patterns, into a mushed cloud can remind one of the time they once had innocent, fun, creativity like the armadillo. Somehow pretending when we’re young does not fade away as we age, it just becomes less fun and more tiring. Things become less focused and more blurred. People who wished they could be the armadillo, still pretending and making the most out of a life with pretty colors and solid shapes. The world waits for the day the armadillo no longer looks in the mirror to see a bird and instead sees a sad blurred man from the real world.

  39. The cover of this book reminds me of a confused Picasso. In most abstract pieces like this you can tell the emotional content through colors and shapes. That is not the case with the art piece presented on the cover of the book “imaginative writing”. The cover of the book has very unclear shapes and blurred colors. Maybe this is due to the author wanting is to imagine what the cover of this book means before we open our imaginative minds to writing. I think the cover of this book has a deeper meaning than most would interpret it to, but most will pass this by and would rather let their imaginative mind be entertained by the text which this book contains. I am interpreting the cover art as natures disaster, the Hard lines in the image provide a guide to the eye that just screams nature to me. But within these hard lines is abstract chaos. Maybe it implies that this is what our imagination looks like when we are given a blind topic. Its as almost the cover represents the beautiful chaos that writing can be if approached either the wrong way or maybe even the correct way. Personally, I think the cover is there to spark some sort of imagination when entering this book. Without any sort of picture on the front of a “Imaginative Writing” book what else would trigger a student’s imagination. While we can imagine what the writer was doing or trying to say when writing, we can’t give ourselves any true visual imaginative image, college is deeper than that. We are here to analyze each piece of this book and what it represents to you and how it applies to your imaginative writing skills. This cover also reminds me of two worlds colliding which could mean our current lives as we enter college or our imaginative cognitive ability to interpret things with our imagination.

  40. On the ENG 107 textbook the cover shows a bright array of colors with excited lines that jump across the canvas and visualizes movement of some sort. The lines follow an abstract formula not really having any deeper meaning other that what the viewer perceives this meaning to be. The colors are warm and inviting as well as contrasting to make lines and shapes pop out. Key take aways for me personally is what looks to me to be green smoke in the bottom left corner of the image and slightly above that is what my brain perceives as a lizard. Although the image has many colors, contrast, and even the unpredictable linework somehow it is still appealing to the eye and in its own nature it is beautiful. Its nature includes all aspects about the image from the inaccurate shading of the different objects having multiple light sources and yet still maintains a feeling of direction, even if it may be only expressed by illusion. A true work of art.

  41. On the cover of our book, there are many shapes and colors to express the creativity aspect of this class. Since things are very free and creative, the book cover doesn’t stick to a theme. Just lots of different colors spanning the whole rainbow and lots of shapes. The shapes are very odd. Some are round and some have sharp corners, and some are just lines. It seems like someone was just saying that they were gonna paint this and not think about what’s happening when they do it. The free-write aspect of this is kind of about that. We just start talking about a topic and we start to form ideas but we don’t think about what we are writing. Just trying to get words on the page and get the creativity flowing. Everything on the cover seems to contrast so much but flow together at the same time. Kind of like it’s flipping to different ideas but staying with the same theme. The artist was just focused on expressing the ideas of the book and nothing else. It feels like the paint was put on and then they added white areas and black areas to contrast everything going on and to give the piece some shape. In writing, a lot of times you brainstorm and throw some words on the page to just have something down. Then from there you can proofread, edit, and add some shape to it while still keeping the idea of creativity in there and having your main points throughout. Writing is all about letting yourself write the worst thing and then make it better. I feel like when I first looked at the cover it looked interesting but it looked really weird too but when I really started focusing on it, the shapes and the differences in color made it more unique than weird in my mind and now I see that it’s very interesting in a good way and probably has more depth than the initial impression.

  42. The cover of this seems like it’s up for interpretation and I feel like that’s why they chose this image for the cover; because it represents writing perfectly. The title of the book is “Imaginative Writing”, you use your imagination to fuel your writing pieces just like you use your imagination to figure out this picture. The artwork on the front clearly isn’t anything specific; however, when people use their imagination they can pretty much make it into anything they want. Someone could say it looks like a ship sailing, or a mountain landscape, or an eagle flying in the sky. Everyone who looks at it could see it differently and find a different image or message from it. Just like how people can use their imagination to find a different underlying meaning to every writing piece that they read; it’s just whatever they believe or whatever makes sense to them in their head. I think art work and writing go hand in hand; the author/artists may have had one idea in their head, but the audience/spectators may see it as something completely different. I think in this case, the author of “imaginative Writing”, wanted to use a very abstract and colorful image to allow the readers to engage their brain before opening the book. Whether you consciously do it or not, every time you look at the book or go to open it, you will see the image and think about what the picture is without even realizing it. Each time your brain sees it it could interpret it as a different image, which as a result, could get you thinking in a different way every day. That’s important for writing because you don’t want to have the same mindset/way of thinking all the time, you want to be broad and look at things from different point of views.

  43. The artwork on the cover reminds me of the abstract art you learn about in school art class. Very abstract with bright, almost primary colors. There appears to be an animal of some kind that looks to me like it could be a pig, rabbit, or dog. While it is an abstract piece, it looks like there are natural elements represented through the different shapes. A mountain range could be made out of the triangles at the bottom of the page but the top left corner looks as though there are clouds or wind being represented by the swirls of white.

  44. Lily Serwa … The cover to me represents imagination. There are so many colors, shapes, swirls, directions, and fluidity in it. I feel as though it represents someone’s mind when they are writing something they may be passionate about, or even something someone is stuck on. It shows passion because the fluid lines show things that people can’t stop writing about and keep going for a very long time. It also shows being stuck because the other shapes have sharp edges to them which show that someone is not having an easy time writing about something and gets in a rut. The colors show all the thoughts and directions their writing may go in. The bright colors may show something that someone is really excited about and has so much to offer. The dull colors and black shapes show things that people do not enjoy writing about. They show things that they may be angry about or just don’t have many interesting things to offer. There are shapes that people may look at and be able to see things that they can make out, for instance faces or creatures or other things, which shows the direction that their imagination goes in. On the other hand, someone else might look at the cover and just see a bunch of blobs and colors; the creatures and faces aren’t the place that their imagination takes them. I think that also represents the way people’s imaginations take them in regards to writing. Someone may see a prompt and have a really passionate answer to it which they can write about for hours, while the person next to them doesn’t have anything they can think of for their prompt. It’s all about perspective.

  45. It confuses me, I am not sure what it represents, and I don’t feel a ‘certain’ way towards it. I like the colors but am not fan of the clunky design. I am sure there is some symbolism attached & maybe there is a deeper image somewhere, but I think I am just missing something. It does remind me of a book that I read when I was in elementary school called “The Rainbow Fish”, the color scheme feels very similar to that book. The other major things that stood out to me was the blue lighting bolt and what looks like a collection of trees in the bottom left, because they felt like the most discernable images from the cover.

  46. A peaceful mess. Colors, shapes, and graphics that should not be mixed together yet look so perfect. The cover of this book makes me feel anxious but calm, annoyed but relaxed, frustrated but at ease. It's not easy for me to look at a mix of colors, shapes, and graphics without feeling overwhelmed, it never has been. I always feel messy and like I need to reorganize the jumbled mess that is in front of me. Yet, with this piece I feel collected. Calm. Put together. I don’t have an overwhelming feeling of anger and frustration because something is out of place or a color doesn't match with the one next to it. The vibrant colors, shapes, and graphics are calming. Dare I say soothing. Every time I look at the cover I see something new. A new animal or a new thought. How was this made? Who created it? What was the story behind it? I need to know the story behind this image. Was it planned or simply just scribbled in a book and slapped on the cover?

I look at the image and the main thing that sticks out is that there are a bunch of colors kind of jumbled on the cover. I see blue, pink, green, red, yellow, and orange. I can see the black lines that outline some parts of the color, and all the colors make different “shapes” I guess you could call them. I think to me it symbolizes how much imagination we have and how we can use that to write some of the things we want even if it doesn’t completely make sense. Honestly, I feel like that’s how my mind works too, like a lot of my mind can sometimes be crowded thoughts and the colors can symbolize what kind of thoughts they are and how much space in my head they’re taking up.

  48. Chaotic components turn into a whole. Gestalt Psychology focuses on that exact word: whole. Elements of one’s mind turn into a meaningful whole instead of a sum of individual parts. I see in this photo a mesh of chaos, color, assortment of shapes… etc. It should not work together but it does. There is something wonderful about the fact that such a mess of random sloshes of paint can come together to mean something to someone. I have found meaning in it. A once disregarded cover art turned into an overview on my brain. I’m living a bright and beautiful life, as I am wholly engaged in my classes and live in an aesthetically pleasing apartment. However, aesthetics cannot succeed in hiding my mismatched brain. I have parts of myself that I feel should not flow together, yet others have looked me up and down in my most vulnerable moments and have contradicted that statement. I look like I flow together. I look like I have everything together, and maybe I do. In my heart, it does not feel like it. My anxiety should not flow with my spontaneous nature. My academic achievements should not flow with my immense procrastination. Does it work and I just cannot see that? Is this imposter syndrome or complete self awareness? Do I look like this cover image? Do I feel like this cover image? I did not intend to be in this headspace at 12:12pm amidst my new peers. I have looked up at the book cover once more and have seen something I did not see before: light. Subtle highlights of light added to this page were lost from my eyes until I stopped trying to think to deeply. There is light everywhere. There is goodness and prosperity everywhere. I simply need to sit down and think deeply for my eyes to actually see it.

The image is very colorful, it has green, red, pink, blue, orange and white colors. It reminds me of how some kids, saw the outside world, they seen it as colorful, vibrant, full of life and warm. not sure what shapes are trying to be shown in this image, however I do see a shape of an eye.

  50. The cover of this book take me back to a time when I felt nothing but pure joy a happiness. Kindergarten. All the vibrant colors and fun brush stokes remind me of my favorite art teacher who would let us paint whatever our imagination wanted for the entire week. It makes me feel like I need to remind myself more often to express my personality and emotions in a more colorful way. Instead of just telling people how I feel I think it would be fun to describe and and show them in a colorful way. When I look at this in the middle of the cover I see a shape of a chameleon lizard. My younger sister for the longest time wanted one of this animals and sadly never got one. Seeing this on this cover reminds me of her and how much I miss her. She is my best friend and lights up any room she walks into with so many colors and happiness with just one smile. This cover makes me feel like there is always a new beginning with every single morning. The colors remind me of my two favorite things sun rises and sunsets. The pure joy that I feel when watching either of these amazing works of art take place is indescribable. I love that I am able to feel happiness and excitement just by looking at the cover of this book. The colors definitely intrigue me to want to open it up past the beautiful cover to start reading what is inside. This cover also reminds me of hope, and how without hope what do we have. The shapes and colors make me feel like there is always a change to try again and to continue believing in myself and never loose hope in whatever I want to do.

It reminds me sort of what goes on in peoples lives. I see chaotic struggles in lives but once they open up they show their bright colorful side.

  52. This art reminds me of chaos. The different shapes and colors don’t exactly go together. The colors are all bright and flashy. It reminds me of free-hand art I might have drawn in grade school. It also reminds me of book covers of children’s books. I’m not really into this kind of art. I like abstract, minimalistic art with texture and neutral colors. This is the exact opposite. Since it has a lot going on, I would put this kind of art in a minimalistic room to add color. I’m also wondering if this took a long time to make. Was it planned or did the artist make it as she went?

  53. When I look at this cover, I see youth. The vibrancy of the colors stick out to me, and the colors remind me of something pure. It brings abstract thoughts that words cannot describe. I believe that the illustrator of this cover had no meaning with it, however it is up to us to provide a meaning. Yet I somehow still wonder what was going through the illustrator's mind as I try to analyze the piece. It is a powerful yet simplistic piece.

  54. The picture is very abstract and colorful. There is not a whole lot of meaning to it now, but that might reveal the nature of its content. The bold colors remind me of something that might be in a lowly lit home above a staircase or somewhere in a museum. There looks to be a green fish in the middle of the page and surrounding it are mute colors and a blur of details and shapes. The clashing colors might reveal the different clashing ideas of concepts inside of the book. Containment, the colors are contained by lighter shadows or darker outlines. Similar to how we compartmentalize our days, our life, our moments. We exaggerate beautiful things and hard things like the bright yellow spot in the center of the page. The rest of the story is told in more of a mute symbol.

  55. When I look at the cover of the book, I see many different shapes and colors. One part that really sticks out to me is the center of it all. I see a shape that makes up a fish. It has one eye that is visible, and even gills. It looks like the fish is even curved, so maybe it is jumping out of water. The shapes around it look similar to some kind of waves or any body of water. I notice that there is more green towards the bottom; I see this as being some kind of seaweed or moss growing in the water. If you look at the top of the picture, there are shades of blue. I see this as being the sky. This would mean that if this picture really is of a fish jumping out of water, the person capturing the photo would be level to the water or even just a tad bit higher off of the water. As for the background, I see shapes that would portray something like hills or mountains. I think that in this case, it would be more like mountains just because of how pointy the shapes are. I see some green on them, so that could be potential trees, bushes, shrubs, or other things of nature. Going back to the topic of the sky, if you look to the right of the picture, there is more pink and yellow than blue. I think the artist was going for a sunset/sunrise vibe. The entire right side of the picture has pink, so I am guessing that the sky is reflecting off of the water.

  56. When I look at this cover, I feel at peace. Since I am a color girl, I thrive when I see colors and get almost excited. I think the cover is trying to show how imaginative writing can be shown in a lot of forms. All the colors, shapes, lines, and figures in the picture collide to make one big masterpiece. It reminds me of a picture a young kid would draw when they were giving markers and pens. Which makes me feel at home since I love kids. Just like this image, I think it wants to make a connection to creative writing. How in creative writing, you can just let your thoughts flow and there is no sense of control. Which I feel is the same for this picture, the image just flows out. No set picture in place, just a collection of a bunch of different minds creating this image. I do not feel overwhelmed, with anything I feel at peace and calm. All the colors mean something which we do not know of. The only person that knows what the true meaning of this is the painter or creator.
Green sticks out the most which I think is interesting and could mean something or represent something. Some people might think of this as very chaotic but I think it has a true meaning behind it which would be interesting to try to uncover. This cover is not just a bunch of scribbles and spots, but it can mean more.

  57. The cover of this book makes me feel free. All of the colors are together, yet they are not mixed. They are on top of each other, but still their own color. The color black is the mold that makes the shapes. The color blue symbolizes freedom, like a breeze. The green symbolizes growth, like the picture is growing off of the screen. The pink and red are the fire. They bring emotion and passion to the picture. The color white symbolizes new. Where there is white, there is the unknown, something that hasn’t been born yet. While each color has it’s own meaning, they are still one. I imagine the colors as citizens of the world. Each belongs to a certain color, yet I feel like new have not been working together like the colors are. We mix our colors and cross the lines. While this could be a good thing, this is also a bad thing. Almost like mixing our colors or crossing the line is like disrespecting the others. Eventually I hope we get to a place where we can respect the other colors enough to not mix unless we have permission.

  58. The cover of the book, imaginative writing, reminds me of the beauty in this world. It is full of color and life.Within this picture I also see the beauty in creation, the ocean, the trees, the sky, buildings, people, etc.. It is hard to find beauty in this world with all the darkness that surrounds us, but the picture seems to bring joy to me. It makes me feel as if the beauty of the world comes within our heads. Yes, there are dark things in this world, just like the picture has some darkness surrounding the light, but there is definitely more light than dark. Coming from a writing book, I feel as if it is representing that when we write and create things from our head that the genre and lightness of the writing all comes from within our heads. We have to imagine and see the good in the world. We should create bright joyful pieces when we write. Our world is full of humans that have creative minds to write, and we should make sure that since we are given the opportunity we fill it with color and light. As we write and create things, we should create them with light and joy because you never know what a bright painting or writing can do around the world.

  59. When I look at this cover art I think of a lot of abstract shapes that make up a beautiful piece of art. It makes me feel happy and joyful because of all the colors that are portrayed in the cover. It almost reminds me of the rainbow in a sense. The beautiful colors also remind me of my family because of how vibrant and outgoing they are. My family is like rock in a sense and they make me as a person. The cover relates to the information just stated because I feel as if the colors make up this cover art for the book. It also makes me feel like these are water colors.

  60. A colorful cover that instead of transmitting positivism and happiness through its color it makes you actually feel the drama and feelings behind it. It doesn't necessarily look like happiness and fun all around it. The different kinds of shapes can make you assume that it is some kind of mental war between ideas and conflicts. This image would definitely make you feel overwhelmed enough to compared it to a mental disorder or a mix of personalities and voices in your head

From the bottom to the side, from the left to the right, colors flow here and there and everywhere. Each color, line, and swipe stand for something. Something bigger than ourselves. Something made up long ago. Long before we met. The colors go zig-zag as they guard the contents behind the colors. The cover hides a new world. A world of imagination. A world of love. A world of hope. And even a world of loss.

  62. At first glance of the cover of this particular book my brain jumps straight to the realization that to me this book cover is if you put the mind of a five year old on a page. Now let me elaborate because to some that might not make total sense. When my eyes stare at this book cover they never stop moving from one idea to the next, almost as if you are in the small brain of a child. When a little kid is thinking they are never constrained on one topic and they forget to develop the idea, instead they toggle from one thought to the next. In the center of the image there is a yellow blob that could be seen as the mouth of a frog open wide for the next fly that zooms by. To the left of the frog there is a green fish that seems as if it is gliding through the water seamlessly. It’s hard to ignore the bottom left corner that is drowning in the color green and making humped figures that could be seen as bright green bushes, but that is as if you were stuck in the mind of a five year old. As you continue to move your eyes all over the image you stop at the swirly colorful curve that could be seen as a rollercoaster if you were at the age of five. That rollercoaster is one you have never gotten the opportunity to ride though, because unfortunately you are barely 4’4” and do not meet the requirements to step into line. So your brain is full of possibilities of how extravagant this particular loop on the colorful roller coaster would be. Your hair would fall through the crisp air and quickly get tangled into knots, just as your mouth is glued open and releasing screams of excitement and terror as you whip briskly around loop of that colorful roller coaster.

  63. My first thought when looking at this cover was “how can so many arbitrary colors, lines, and designs, all almost chaotic, come together to create something so beautiful?” And I think that is the point. That is what creative/imaginative writing is all about. It is about taking all of the thoughts, ideas, and inspirations rattling inside your head, a chaotic mess of passion, and making sense of them by putting them onto paper and creating something equally as beautiful as it is messy, but that's why it is so perfect.
Writing, to me, is making sense of a chaotic and seemingly random world and events and making them into something that makes sense. It is a beautiful process, and I think this cover encapsulates exactly how writing makes me feel. Although the thoughts I write down may not make sense, they may be disorganized and may not seem to have a final destination, once you refine and find that final destination, whether its where you thought it would take you or not, it can turn into something magnetic and amazing so easily.
That’s the beauty of words. They are magnetic. They are beautiful. But there are equally chaotic and hard to interpret. You can stumble upon the right set of words by chance and make something impactful, something meaningful, something that changes perspectives. Words can shape generations, words can inspire and ignite action, words can heal, and words can make sense of it all. That’s why I love writing, and that’s why I love this cover. It reminds me of words strung together, seemingly random and at chance, but nonetheless perfect and beautiful.
Just like this cover, the same set of words can mean so many different things to different people. Everyone can make their own meaning and take them how it resonates. I doubt two people in this class described this cover in the same way, and it is equally as unlikely that two people in here are right in exactly the same way. That’s why art similar to words is so important, it can give us an insight into each other’s perspectives, and let us understand each other. Art, such as the art on this cover, like words, is inspiring and elusive, meaning something different to each of us and that is why I love both.

While living is the longest activity you'll do, yet it is gone in an instant. Why walk along such a bland and straight path for all the long, short time? Why not lead your life down your road rather than follow societies? Haven't they always told us to take the road less traveled? Yet there you are, avoiding the chaos, hiding behind silence.

The book cover makes me feel happy, like I'm running from ride to ride, eating a large amount of fair food, and hanging out with friends. The colors are bright so it is not a sad or boring looking book. It is a piece of artwork. Looking at art makes me calm and relaxed. 67. The first thing that jumps out at me in the cover of the book is obviously the bright colors, in particular the green. I have been liking the color green more and more lately. I am not sure if I am subconsciously following a trend, considering green has become overwhelming popular recently or if I have simply gained a new appreciation for the color. My phone is green and so is its case and has you asked me about a year ago to pick out a phone and case the absolute last color I would have chosen would have been green. But there are so many different shades of green its almost like each are totally different color. Even in this cover, there is a lot of green but in such variety that no two tones look the same. In the center of the cover I see a shape that looks like a chameleon. Small blue marks make up the little creature's face. He looks just like the character of Tangled. The top left and center of the cover are light and almost happy, but as my eyes move towards the bottom right corner, the image gets almost heavier. The deep red strokes of color mixed with the black create a contrast to the energy that the greens emit.

  68. Observing the picture, the abstract formality of it all provides many thoughts for ones mental imagery to process. A ponderance one might have while gazing upon this art, could be, “What was this person thinking when creating it?”. We all create things of our own desire or free will, what it means to us or where it came from is a completely different story. In my opinion, the picture shows that the artist definitely is a free spirit and definitely soaked up the mood at that given time. I can’t speak for all artists, but for myself, whenever I am writing or drawing, I start with a small piece, keep going until I have it all spilled out, then go back to make adjustments. Of course with abstract art, there isn’t really such a thing as adjustments, unless it’s minor. Going with the flow of things I would say was the intent of this picture. I would like to say that making art like this, you don’t make any plans as to what it will be, how long it will take, or what it will mean. It usually just all comes together when it is finished. Having said that, personally, this art makes me want to let go. As my eyes peruse up and down all of the lines and shapes of this piece, I notice all of the little details of it all. It gives the idea that there is always more to where it came from and what it has to offer.

  69. Kate Henderson- I like how the colors are very bright and stand out to me. It flows very nicely with the harsh lines and curved lines as well. I can tell that there is depth to it because of the shading and it is pleasing to the eye. It makes me think of the word creative and and imagination. It kind of reminds me of an abstract dream or like a childhood dream. It also reminds me of something that is maybe an AI picture. It makes me think of words flowing on a page and makes me want to write a fantasy story. I like how it has very neon colors that draw my eye to it. It is giving me very much writing and imagination vibes when I look at it. Just something about the way it has so many different elements but it is also easy to look at as a whole is nice. My favorite color is red so i like how it is in there. The brightest red that is on this picture is my favorite color. I like how it looks like maybe there are clouds in the left corner but there is a blue zig zag on the right middle side. I also like the what seems to be a loop or a swirl of a line in the middle and on the right side. There are circles as well. The difference of shapes maybe makes me think of the difference of types of writing and all of the different things you can do with it. There are so many different shapes and colors in this that every time I look at it i discover something new and that can be true in writing and types of writing. I like how they have not only warm colors but also cool colors mixed in with it as well. There is also a lot of black showing the shadows and things that are maybe supposed to be seen as farther back. There is also a lot of white for things making it look like that is closer. These colors give the picture a lot of dimension and it tricks the eye. I wonder if this is a famous picture, if we know who made it, or even if it is an AI image. I really enjoy the picture. (The blog is not working on my I pad however I can get it on my computer at home probably, I just need to get my computer fixed very fast.)

  70. comprehend the book of Janet BUrroway I see a lot of activity in half the book and the other half very simple. As I dig a little deeper and start to read exactly what I'm looking at as the colors run wild and slide within each other it gets as simple as black and white.
There are multiple different colors on the top half of the book and as I study the picture it doesn't seem like there are any patterns or any type. However, I can see certain shapes that my imagination takes me in the bottom left it looks like there are trees or brushes with maybe a fruit in the middle. Then towards the middle but still on the left side, it looks like there is some type of animal as I can see the eye and ear. On the right, there is a blue squidge line that I think of mountains when I look at it. Even though there are some figures that stick out to me more than others there is still a lot of the photo or top part of the book that I think are truly just colors mashed in with one another. With maybe no purpose at all or maybe every color there is a sign that I yet can't read with just a first glance.
On the bottom, it is extremely bare with the sighnificatance of telling you the name of who wrote this novel and so on. But even with its simplicity, it impacts the look of this book.

  71. When I first looked at the image I immediately noticed all of the bright, vibrant colors. Then I began to notice the abstractness of it, with all the different shapes and objects forming together. Even though there is not a consistent theme throughout the image it still makes sense. The colors blend together well, and all the shapes and different objects form together to create a beautiful cover. The cover is exciting and unique. Honestly when I look at it, it reminds me of something from the 80’s. I see tones of bright blue, pink, green, orange, and yellow. The image is kind of blurry and looks like a painting. I believe the purpose of this cover was to show that you can put so many different things into one piece and it still comes out cohesive.

  72. The colors remind me of the way a mind wonders. The way the image flows while still having dark lines is like how there are always borders but you can blend and push those harsh lines into the image you want to create. There is bushes, a fish or dog...however you would like to look at the art, which is the beautiful thing about peoples imagination.

  73. The cover of the book is very artistic and is pretty interesting. I personally don’t see a certain hidden message in the piece, but I do think it’s a little symbolic. The cover looks like a lot of colors and designs thrown into one piece. I think k the cover is basically saying “creative writing can be so many things and it can be literally whatever you want.” Whenever I attempt to creatively write, I try to go outside the box and outside the norms or how I usually write. What makes creative writing so fun and good for you is that there isn’t any restrictions, limits, filters, or sensors or what you write. It can be good for you to write down what’s on your mind if you have a lot on your mind. The other best part about creative writing is that you get to paint the image and tell your story or what you believe. This picture symbolizes that there’s nothing that’s too crazy, too graphic, too sad, too happy, or too unique to write about when it comes to creative writing. This piece is a pretty good symbol or what creative writing is about.

  74. Looking at the cover of the English textbook reminds me of campouts I used to go on with the Cub Scouts, back in Middle School. These were some of the first times in my young life where I got to experience feelings like independence and a sense of adventure. The blue reminds me of the cloudless sky and wonderful weather those summer trips would have. But even more than that, it makes me remember the dreams I had as a kid: to go out, see the wonder that this planet has to offer, and open my mind up to the different views and beliefs of others. Looking at the cover of this textbook inspires me to never stop living, and never take the beauty of this world for granted.

  75. Looking at this cover simply reminds me of Saint Patrick’s Day. The first thing that I was drawn to was the extremely different usage of colors that were used. It reminded me of the rainbow which therefore drew me to the holiday that we call Saint Patricks Day. I think of four leaf clovers when I look at this. The cover looks as though it were simply free painted with not a worry in the world. It didn’t need to make sense to the one creating it, all it needed was a blank canvas with a bright and bold imagination. I feel happy and overjoyed to look at this cover. It reminds me of the paintings that my sister used to paint for me when we had no plans on a Sunday afternoon. We would make our way to the basement and just pick a handful of paints, a variety of brushes that were never properly washed after being used, and a canvas. This piece in specific reminds me of my sister because she never cared about staying in the lines or using colors that seemed to “match.” All she wanted was for her creation to be bright and bubbly because that is just how her personality is. She never seems to have bad days because she is simply just a ball of imagination with an unlimited amount of opportunity. When I look at her all I can see is happiness and pure joy. I know that her future is so bright just like this painting is to me. I also for some reason am reminded of a fish when I look at this painting. Aside from the fact that I see a literal fish in one of the abstract objects within this piece, it directs my mind to the joyful times where my grandmother would take us down to her pond to fish all evening. My favorite thing about fishing with her was that I didn’t need to be good at it but she reminded me that I just needed to have fun and take in the experience. Looking at this piece I put myself into the creators perspective and I imagine that they felt the same way as I do when I go fishing with my grandmother. No worry in the world. Just an open mind with an experience to feel free and alive.

  76. The cover of the book reflects colors of happiness and sadness. It reminds me of how the emotions of happiness and sadness battle everyday. The bright colors take over the dark colors and display how happiness is the typical winning emotion in most daily lives. I see a person in the middle of the display of colors and squiggles. It reminds me of myself when I wake up in the morning. Deciding if I want to be happy or sad that day, and in certain situations when I am lost on how I am supposed to feel. Emotions are all over the place and are hard to decipher, which is what makes this cover so interesting to me. It reminds me of a maze and a person in the maze lost and in need of guidance. I relate to this person on some level. The squiggles are a way to get lost and truly find new ways and interpretations. It makes me feel confused, lost, happy, angry, sad, fearful, etc. Showcases how certain colors bring out certain emotions in people and writing.

  77. The cover of our text book brings uniquness. In my opinion it portrays many aspects of creative writing through visual imagery. It is colorful, abstract, and bold in a way that you never find it boring to look at. You see shapes but you also can formulate images to where you can make it whatever you feel it should be. Overall, the cover is what introduces our book as imaginative and creative with the words as the depth and personality of the book itself, it is free. I see clouds and movement in a still image that makes me feel analytical and also free to portray so image as I feel it should be portrayed. I feel like it could be interpreted based on mood because of its abstract ability to be whatever you feel you see or that you are looking at, its beautiful but what makes it even more beautiful is the writing inside saying that it could possibly show aspects that you can not see but have to read and learn.

  78. I think the cover art on the textbook speaks volumes to the content inside. The title says imaginative writing, which to me speaks to the creativity in the text and how we are supposed to feel in writing. The art is abstract just as creative writing consists of your thoughts and feelings. I feel that they did not use a specific painting of an object because while it is art it does not set the mood for the rest of the text like this abstract design does. The word that comes to mind for me is free when I see this like free drawing or free writing. There are no set limits, you just do what is on your mind and I feel like the person who created this art did so freely with no end goal of what it was supposed to look like.

Looking at the cover of my textbook, I see many things, I see vibrant colors that grab my eyes and remind me of other covers that I read when I was little. I also see a semester of dedication, A semester that will be full of homework, writing assignments. The bright colors invite me in to the book, seeming like it will be a cake walk; it won’t. The abstract cover describes how its going to be reading the book; jumbled together.

  80. This picture gave me a sense of urgency, to act fast. The vibrancy and the shapes both rigid and soft made me want to go out and do something. The shapes begin to make sense, I see green tress on the bottom of the picture and the ocean on the top left. Both vegetation and underwater had meaning. The center looked like the sun to me, wrapped around a creature. So abstract, but it’s starting to make sense. Maybe the urgent feeling was to go out, and enjoy nature. That there isn’t much time left to enjoy it. It’s a way to freeze time without any consequences. The colors show beauty and full of life, it’s not just an eye sore.

  81. When looking at the image that appears on the cover of my textbook I am immediately drawn to the bright colors and unique shapes. The shapes have no boundaries and provide me with a sense of freedom. It makes me feel as though can openly express my feelings and opinions that I may have. The image reminds me of the unique qualities that I possess and how I can use these to create my own literary works. As I look at the image with a deeper understanding I see that it is there to inspire me to use my own creative mind. It challenges me to be different so that I may utilize every piece of inspiration that is given to me. The image has a certain creative quality that makes me wonder what its meaning is and how I might use this curiosity.

  82. The cover reminds me of a child trying to replicate a Picasso painting. The abstract shapes with vibrant colors fulfills the page. I see what looks like bushes or trees in the left bottom corner. I see mountain-like mounts on the right edge. I think the idea of this cover was that no one really understood what the cover is so you think and imagine more and try to make out the photos but you can’t. It’s up to your imagination to guess what they are. It makes me feel curious because I feel like I see one thing but the overwhelming shapes takes over. The art is complex yet simple. It allows your imagination to run wild. You keep wanting to ask yourself questions. What is it? What does it mean? How does this relate to the text? Everything is different. Nothing looks the same. Just like imaginative writing. No text is the same. No imagination is the same. No minds are the same. How? Why?
