Free Write Possibilities
This Free Write is from Try This 5.12 (p. 157)
Write a "list poem" that pays homage to a place you know.
The images may be strung together with "and-and-and" or with any word or
prepositional phrase you choose. There should also be some element of
action, something moving or doing, passing or becoming.
For credit, your poem must include a minimum of 15-20 things/images.
For inspiration, a few of my favorite poems about place / setting / community:
"At the Fishhouses" by Elizabeth Bishop
"Early December in Croton-on-Hudson" by Louise Gluck
"Lying in a Hammock at William Duffy’s Farm in Pine Island, Minnesota" by James Wright
excerpt from "Oil" by Fatimah Asghar
